MPLS Network Provides Improved Security Management
RICHMOND, VA – October 21, 2009 – Cavalier, a leading provider of competitive telecommunications services throughout the eastern United States, today announced it has been awarded the Internet services and data communications contract for the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP). Under the agreement, security cameras located within the HACP’s 26 housing developments will stream live video over Cavalier’s network to the HACP’s security command center, providing the communities with greater safety and security.
“The visual access that Cavalier enables will allow our locations to share surveillance images instantly, empowering our security guards and decreasing emergency response times,” said Will McDanel, procurement director, Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh.
“The mesh network we designed for the HACP using Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) provides exceptionally reliable connectivity for this critical application,” said Bryan Grimm, director of product management, Cavalier. The network will be provisioned using a combination of access technologies, including SONET and Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM). EFM technology provides the HACP with the flexibility to increase bandwidth quickly and in increments suitable for its unique needs while providing greater protection against individual loop outages.
In addition to these robust access services, Cavalier’s backbone is built on a self-healing architecture which delivers 99.99% network availability. Government entities are increasingly turning to Cavalier for the company’s expertise in delivering secure and flexible network solutions.
