Definition of an IP Address.
An IP address is an identifier for a device connected to a TCP/IP network . Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route traffic based on the IP addresses. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric (8 byte) identifier written as four numbers separated by periods. The numbers can be valued from 0 to 255. As an example, 64.22.0.12 might used as an IP address.
