Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the main protocols used in TCP/IP networks. The IP protocol deals with addressing while TCP enables hosts to establish connections and exchange streams of data. TCP controls delivery of data and assures that data packets are delivered in the same order in which they were sent.
